About the ‘200 for £100 Friends of tKC’
The Kenilworth Centre has a mission to provide activities and facilities for residents of Kenilworth. We do this by:
- Providing support and guidance for around 100 Kenilworth young people each week
- Providing a hub for local services and small businesses within Kenilworth – we estimate 800 people walk through our doors each week!
- Providing Community events, including Pop-up cafe, Board Game Hub, ‘COOK’ Sunday dinners and more.
- Hosting and co-ordinating Abbey End Studios and Radio Abbey – our town’s only local radio station
We are looking for community members who can pay £100 a year to be a ‘200 for £100′ Friend of the Kenilworth Centre’ to support us in this mission. The Kenilworth Centre is a charity, dependent on funding, grants, sponsorship and donations.
Why do we need you support?
We help young people find their place in the world through our youth club and our mentoring and counselling services. We support young people who find themselves with little support elsewhere. It has been repeatedly fed back us by our Youth Forum that tKC is the only place these young people feel heard.
We have also recently launched a pathway to work scheme and continue to develop this with the Mayor and partnering businesses working toward a better future for the young people of Kenilworth.
tKC is more than a Youth Club though, we support the wider community, in particular isolated people and those struggling with the costs of living, we do this through our monthly meals, board game hub, pop-up cafe and by supporting Compassionate Kenilworth.
We also provide space for local small businesses, groups and charities to meet, run classes and provide services to the town, including a weekly Pop-up bank from Barclays.
Our income from hire, only covers 50% of our running costs, depsite us working with a skeleton staff and keeping costs down at every opportunity.
tKC is an Independant charity and is not funded or run by the council, we are currently responsible for the cost of running the building, from all fixtures and fittings as well as all structural costs.
While we have campaigned hard in 2023 to recieve extra funding and we are grateful to the support of Kenilworth Town Council, we need addtional funds to secure the future of your community centre and building.
What will happen without the support of the community?
Kenilworth is a thriving town, with a great network of people and a caring community. However due to the status of our town, we often do not qualify for national grants, in the last four months we have been turned down for over £40k worth of funding, because Kenilworth as a town does not qualify.
Therefore without the help of the community itself, it is not possible for us to secure the future of your community centre.
What do ‘200 for 100 Friends’ receive in return?
We will send newsletters to keep you up to date with the activities of the Centre and how your money is being spent. Your name will be added to our website and thank you screen in reception as a supporter, unless you wish to remain anonymous.
How do Friends support the work of tKC?
Your £100 a year helps us both to provide the facilities outlined above and to maintain the building, for which we are responsible.
